Rutgers Takes the Garden State: Rutgers Day on the Battleship New Jersey

Step into history with fellow Rutgers alumni as you explore the longest, fastest, and most decorated U.S. battleship ever built!

Your discounted admission ticket to the museum includes:

• Access to explore the museum’s immersive exhibits and engaging experiences for the day (10 AM – 5 PM).
• Tours of the Engine Room and Turret, exclusively for Rutgers alumni aboard the ship. Tours depart every half hour, and tour space is limited! Registration for the tours will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
• A chance to see a 40mm Saluting Gun fired off the side of the ship (specific times for firings will be shared closer to the event).
• The opportunity to gather with other Rutgers alumni, friends, and families in a Mess Galley for snacks and short remarks honoring the alumni veterans in attendance.

Registration is required to attend this event. The deadline to register is Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept walk-in attendees for this event.

Important to Know:

• Full tours of the Battleship New Jersey are physical and require climbing and descending steep steps (called ladders by the Navy). You will also be stepping over “knee knockers” or high step openings along the tour. We advise guests to dress casually and wear comfortable walking or athletic shoes with non-skid soles.
• No backpacks can be worn aboard the ship. Please leave all backpacks or oversized bags in your car.
• Front carriers are required for infants and toddlers. You will have to leave your stroller in the ship’s Visitor’s Center or in your car.
• Limited parts of the ship are wheelchair accessible. The main deck exterior, anti-aircraft guns, and officer's ward room are all wheelchair accessible. Other parts of the ship may be difficult/impossible to access for those with mobility issues.
• While the Battleship does not permit emotional support animals (ESAs) on board, they do welcome vested, ADA-certified service animals with the appropriate documentation. This policy is in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which grants access rights specifically to service animals that are individually trained to perform tasks directly related to a person’s disability.
