Clifton R. Lacy

Clifton R. Lacy was responsible for New Jersey public health care, health policy, senior services, and emergency preparedness as commissioner of the state’s Department of Health and Senior Services from 2002–04. Prior to that role, he was senior vice president for medical affairs and chief of staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, as well as chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hypertension and director of the Center for Disease Management and Clinical Outcomes at UMDNJ–Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Medical School. He also was a visiting professor at Rutgers’ Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. Lacy is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians. He earned his M.D. degree and completed training in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases at UMDNJ–RWJ Medical School, and was honored with the UMDNJ Most Distinguished Alumus Award and membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. In 2004, Lacy was named president and CEO of RWJ University Hospital and in 2006, he left that position to develop and direct the new Institute for Disaster and Terror Medicine at UMDNJ-RWJ Medical School and RWJ University Hospital.
