Edward V. Lipman

Edward V. Lipman’s father, Jacob Lipman RC 1898, was named to Rutgers’ Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 1992, making Edward the first child of an inductee to also receive the award. Edward grew up on the College Farm and followed his father’s footsteps, becoming dean of the College of Agriculture. He then held several positions with the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1935 through the end of World War II, when he was named director of grower relations for Ocean Spray Cranberries. In 1950, he established Jeffrey’s Branch Cranberry Company, which became one of the largest cranberry producers in New Jersey. He served on several boards, including New Jersey’s Farm Bureau. He received numerous service awards, including the New Jersey Agricultural Society’s Gold Medallion, the Cook Alumni Association George H. Cook Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Rutgers University Alumni Federation Meritorious Service Award. New Jersey’s agriculture secretary praised Lipman for having “served the agriculture community in New Jersey and elsewhere in the nation with dedication and distinction throughout his career.” Lipman died in 1998 at age 87.
