Banking executive and philanthropist, shaping Valley National Bank’s growth while dedicating his life to causes that bettered communities and healthcare worldwide
Gerald H. Lipkin is chairman, president, and CEO of Valley National Bancorp, a regional bank holding company whose principal subsidiary is Valley National Bank. Before joining Valley National in 1975 as senior vice president, he worked for the federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a national bank examiner and later as a deputy regional administrator. Lipkin has also chaired the nominating committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Off the job, he has dedicated much of his time and energy to numerous philanthropic and civic activities. He was a longtime trustee of Beth Israel Hospital and chaired its finance committee for more than 10 years. For more than 15 years, he has raised funds internationally for the Lautenberg Center for Tumor Immunology in Israel. He is a member of William Paterson University’s Foundation Board and a recipient of its Legacy Award. At Rutgers, Lipkin has been a longtime member of the Rutgers University Foundation Board of Overseers and is chair of the Rutgers Business School Board of Advisers. In 2001, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Newark College of Arts and Sciences.
