Robert E. Lloyd

Robert E. Lloyd is a prominent figure in Rutgers basketball history, having led the team to its first post-season appearance in 1967 while being named the school’s first All-American. Lloyd was also a success in the business world as CEO of several software companies, retiring in 1996 to devote more time to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, of which he has been chairman since its inception in 1993. The V Foundation, which has raised more than $70 million under Lloyd’s leadership, has become fully endowed, enabling 100 percent of cash donations to fund cancer research, and has received five consecutive 4-Star ratings from Charity Navigator. Prior to his business career, Lloyd played two years for the NBA’s New Jersey Nets. He then launched a successful sales and marketing career, first with General Electric in 1970. He quickly moved up the ladder, joining Spalding Sports Company in 1974 as vice president of sales. By 1979, he was the senior vice president of sales and marketing for Curley-Bates, Inc. He later became president of Fila Sports, Inc. In 1982, Lloyd moved into the consumer software industry and became president at Data East, Inc. and then in 1990, chairman and CEO of Mindscape.
