Our Vision

Rutgers Cancer Institute

Advance Cancer Research

At Rutgers Cancer Institute, we believe today’s actions will lead to tomorrow’s cures. Every day, Rutgers researchers are improving our understanding of cancer in all its forms, changing the way it is prevented, diagnosed, treated, and cured.

Some of the biggest breakthroughs in research start right here in New Jersey, which is why more than 230 faculty members receive more than $150 million in federal, state, and philanthropic grant support. But the discoveries made here don’t stay here. Our innovations travel to clinics and hospitals around the globe: to improve health, save lives, and foster hope. And it’s all supported by people just like you who donate generously.

Conduct Clinical Trials That Expand Access to Care

At Rutgers Cancer Institute, physician-scientists have engaged in over 230 research trials and continue to investigate a broad spectrum of new therapies, diagnostics, preventive options, and cancer survivorship strategies.

Through these clinical trials, our patients can choose to have access to the most advanced, targeted treatment options, while our scientists can gain key findings that expand access to treatment for more people. Our patients may even have access to novel treatments that are not yet available through standard clinical practice. That’s just one way our donors achieve a lifesaving impact.

Engender Hope

Cancer can strike anyone. Everyone deserves access to treatment. Everyone deserves hope. At Rutgers Cancer Institute, we’re reaching out to engage with and empower our New Jersey neighbors, to build the strong, healthy, and secure communities that can engender hope and help thousands of patients become survivors. This could not happen without the support of people like you.

Our mission is to advance cancer health equity across the state of New Jersey, with a focus on underserved populations, through community capacity building, participatory research, advocacy, community and patient navigation, and innovative education and training. We’re grateful to our donors who help us turn hope into
reality for so many of our communities.

Our Leadership

Our Leadership

One of the nation’s leading comprehensive cancer centers is located right here in New Jersey.

The National Cancer Institute rigorously evaluates the nation’s cancer centers on the basis of their scientific leadership, resources, and outstanding track record of research discoveries in basic, clinical, and population-based science. It then selectively awards the designation of Comprehensive Cancer Center only to those
that are achieving the very highest standards in scientific leadership, resources, and other criteria.

Only one cancer center in New Jersey has been awarded this competitive designation. That’s Rutgers Cancer Institute.

What does this mean to you? It means one of the best cancer centers in the nation is right here in New Jersey. It means our patients receive high-quality care, including many advanced treatment options, often not available at other facilities across the state. And it means our donors achieve far-reaching impact through their philanthropic support.

Addressing Equitable Health Care in Underserved Communities

People in marginalized communities, those living in rural areas, low-income individuals, and the uninsured are disproportionately affected by cancer, yet often have limited access to cancer screenings, care, and treatment.

Rutgers Cancer Institute manages more than 150,000 patient visits a year and is committed to helping those living in underserved communities receive timely access to high-quality, culturally responsive care.

We strive to improve cancer health equity by addressing underlying social determinants of health, reducing barriers to care, lessening disparities, and ensuring access to the most comprehensive treatments close to home.
