Susan P. Ness

Susan Ness served as commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission from 1994–2001. She currently is a consultant to communications companies and a frequent lecturer on communications policy. She played a leading role in spectrum policy, facilitating the deployment of new technologies, including PCS, digital television, and digital satellite radio. She was an advocate for children’s educational television and for extending internet access to the classroom. She chaired the Federal-State Joint Board on Universal Telephone Service and was the FCC’s senior representative at many international treaty conferences and meetings. From 1975–77, she was assistant counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Banking, Currency, and Housing. She also founded the National Women’s Political Caucus Judicial Appointments Project. Today, she serves on the directors boards of LCC International and Adelphia Communications Corporation, and is a member of the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation Board. Her accolades include the International Radio and Television Society Foundation Achievement Award. She is currently president and CEO of GreenStone Media, a radio content production company formed in 2005.
