Honoring a Legacy of Supporting the Scarlet Knights
John and Barbara Broggi, fervent fans of Rutgers women's basketball, received the Scarlet Legacy Award.
In the 1960s, John RC’67 and Barbara Broggi got engaged after a Rutgers men's basketball game. In 2001—more than 30 years after that proposal—they attended their first Rutgers women’s basketball game, an epic victory for the Scarlet Knights over number one-ranked Notre Dame. They were hooked, becoming enthusiastic and generous supporters.
In June, the Broggis, who have been married 57 years, were honored with the 2024 Scarlet Legacy Award at the ninth annual Scarlet Knight on the Banks, which is hosted by R Fund to honor Scarlet Society members and All-America level donors for their contributions and continued support for the student-athlete experience.
In a video about the Broggis, Rutgers women’s basketball coach Coquese Washington—who was an assistant coach for Notre Dame in the 2001 game—thanks them for their unwavering support. “We have been able to do so many life-changing things with these young ladies because of how you support us,” Washington tells the Broggis.
